The LPC
Within this team-based exercise, we will use a simple task to examine how leadership is practiced outside of classrooms. The first step is to break into teams and elect a leader.
Each team's leader will meet with the facilitator and will be shown the cover or picture for your team's jigsaw puzzle. Each leader will be given 5 minutes to describe the picture, i.e., share the vision, assign team roles, and motivate the team.
Round 1: allot 15 minutes. At the end of the round, please discuss:
- What were the barriers to success?
- Was there adherence to articulated roles?
- Did the team prioritize team or task?
- Is there an organizational structure suggested?
- Any motivational techniques employed?
- How would you describe the team's development?
Round 2: share the picture with the entire team. Allow additional time toward the completion of the deliverable.
Endgame:
- How many teams were able to meet the customer expectations and deliver a completed puzzle?
- How much of a role did leadership play in the success or failure of the team?
